Just picked up a pair on loan from my dealer. Only had the time to listen to one song on them so far. Will report back!

The Model 1 is a bit of a legend, no? Looking forward to reading your thoughts, Dave.

So far (after just a few CDs) they have revealed their strengths and weaknesses.
Before I get to that, though, these are really small speakers. They look much bigger in pictures. My B&W 685s dwarf them.
Strengths? These are very fast, very fast, very revealing speakers. They image like crazy, just like all the reviews.
Weaknesses? They seem a bit bright to me, they're not the "recline back and relax" kind of speakers, more "sit up and take notice". I think they may be fatiguing over time. Another problem - they have no bass. NO BASS!

Should of kept the Sttafs Dave. LOL!! Just kidding man.
I am surprise they have no bass at all? What are the specs rated for in the low frequencies? Have you tried facing them straight forward?

I think they're spec'd out at 50 hz on the low end. I should be able to squeeze 40 hz out of them in my room, but I don't think so. They're facing straight forward, as per Totem's recommendations. I'll try moving them around a bit this week and see what that does.

50 hz!!?? Wow, your right there is no bass. Looks like they expected a sub to be used. ?? Not sure man but that doesn't seem too low.

I think these are speakers that would be much better suited to music genres like jazz, or piano, vocal, or in a pinch, classic rock like Pink Floyd. I listened to DSOTM last night and it was pretty amazing. I also tried out some Slayer, and while it was highly resolving, and I heard stuff I never heard before, it just didn't sound all that great.

Totem often specs their products low response'in room'. If 50 Hz is stated at a -3db figgur, likely, there is no way that 40 Hz is even possible, Dave.
In your nice small room, I would think an 8" REL sealed sub would get you under 40 quite nicely.
Or start to like jazz.

Jazz is a no-go, so subs it is.

I concur, but maybe a little more bass for your Glenn Miller vinyl would be nice.

Maybe your dealer has a small sub to lend for a Sunday/Monday?
I know you have spares, Dave, but a small fast one might be in order.

I am going to be selling my UltraCube sub (not great for music) and will be picking up a small REL or Totem sub. Something speedy, doesnt have to go ultra low or rattle my foundation like the UltraCube can.

That's a good call.

Whats the Verdict Dave?

They were kinda fun for the the week (what little time I had) but they went back. They were nice, but for the price they would have cost me, it just didn't seem worth the layout. Still, of all the Totems, I enjoyed the Sttafs the most.

50 hz is fine bass from a mini monitor and not much different from your B&W 685's. Totem simply has a different presentation. The Rainmakers which everyone thought had great bass was only 45 hz. Fuss a bit with placement and see what you get...in the end the Model 1 Sig's may not be your bag.
