The old method of recording direct was discussed in some length in the System Building 101 thread. Well, it was a nice surprise to find out that one of my favorite artists recorded his new album to analog tape in one take (for the most part, as I believe glaring errors were fixed and for this purpose they actually did several takes). He did the same for his previous release as well.

Very cool. Hope this catches on in the rock genre, though given the cost it probably won't unless it's what the artist truly wants and s/he has some pull. There are previews up on You Tube. I've only listened to a few so far but they sound promising.

That is very cool Dan. I thought his previous record was brilliant actually, I've heard one track from the new one and I think it's going to be just as good.
The last Foo Fighters album was recorded all analog as well, in Dave's garage.

Nice David, didn't know that. Perhaps there are some others.

Yup, the Foo Fighters disc contains a tape snippet that apparently was part of the original master tape they recorded on. Pretty cool.

I just picked up the new Slash album the other day.
This is a phenomenal recording. While the first solo album was more of a project or a compilation, this album has a much more cohesive feel to it, sounds more like a tight band than a project, if you know what I mean. Obviously the fact that Myles Kennedy is singing on all the tracks goes a long way to contribute to this feel.
Slashes' playing is perfect, the production is top notch, the songwriting is excellent, and Kennedy is actually a very good vocalist.
I've listened to this album end to end at least a dozen times now.

Cool, I'm looking forward to giving the album a spin. I haven't actually picked it up yet. Been a little busy lately and I still need to consider which version to get (vinyl or the deluxe CD).
