Jan, here is a link to a demag tool that uses ions to do it's thing:

I'm almost positive the fellow at TAVES mentioned ions were used in the product he demonstrated. Whatever it did use, it seemed to work exceptionally well and I'll be purchasing one in due time. He also recommended it's use on vinyl and cables.

The one used at TAVES is similar to the one in the link above, however it is pinkish/purple in color and has a more ergonomic handle.
